Garrett Jones, a midfielder for the U18 Nike team, has been called up to the Region IV ODP team for the ODP NCAA Interregionals in December. The event is held as part of the Collegiate Championship Soccer Showcase, hosted by Birmingham (Ala.) United Soccer Association, and will run in conjunction with the NCAA Men's College Cup.
Jones just completed a successful high school season with Boise High, leading his team to the state championship and scoring the game-winner in the 1-0 State Cup final. He has also been a part of three State Cup championship teams with Idaho Rush.
The interregional event pits regional ODP teams from all four of US Youth Soccer's four regions against one another in a round-robin format. Because the event is held as part of a college showcase and runs concurrent with the NCAA men's soccer national championship, there will be hundreds of college coaches watching the games. The tournament runs Dec. 8-11.
The Olympic Development Program, or ODP as it is more commonly called, is a national identification and development program for high-level players. The program identifies and develops youth players throughout the country to represent their state, region and the United States in soccer competition.
