Each year, hundreds of volunteers give thousands of hours of their precious time to help young athletes realize the benefits of playing the greatest sport on earth. Every year, we recognize some of the stand-out volunteers who have gone above and beyond the high expectations we hold for our volunteers. This is not an honor we take lightly. Through their dedication, demeanor and positive approach to their players and the game, they are leading examples of the standard we hope all of our volunteers can achieve. On behalf of all of the children they have helped, CYSA and the Idaho Rush Soccer Club thank these volunteers for everything they do. Their time and passion is greatly appreciated by all who see tham at work.

2013 Volunteers of the Year
Blue Standard Award -- Sean Sup
The Blue Standard Award is given to the coach or volunteer who best exemplifies the values, ethics and dedication to children all Rush coaches strive to achieve.
From the staff: Sean Sup, grew up playing Competitive Club soccer in Boise, graduated from Boise State University and is now a school teacher at Hillside Junior High. Sean is the perfect role model for a soccer coach. He is passionate about the game and is always looking to learn new ideas from his mentors. His patient teaching skills in the classroom overflow onto the soccer field which is evident in his calm demeanor. Sean is currently coaching two teams within the Rush club and is always volunteering his personal time to help out with Rush community events.  We are extremely proud to give him our top honor, the Blue Standard Award. Congratulations Sean!!
  • Team: Boys U10 Grey and Boys U15 Nero.
  • Years involved in youth soccer: 3 years.
  • Favorite part of coaching?: Most Imprtantly, you have to enjoy working with kids, but I also really love the opportunities to goof around with the coaches. Whether it's the last day or a long camp or just a small chat after practice, those are the moments that keep me motivated.
  • Best moment of the past season: This summer at Camp McCall! taylor, Olly, Carlos and I decided to race canoes on the lake. Olly and Carlos had a great start so Taylor and I worked double time to try and catch them. We ended up paddling to hard into the turn around and the canoe dipped and took on a lot of water. We Jumped out and started dragging the canoe back to try and save it from sinking. I'm such a bad seimmer that Taylor did all the work while I focused on surving what appeared to be a life or death diutation.

Select Coach of the Year -- Dave Decker
  • Team: Girls U14 Revolution
  • Years coaching youth soccer: 8 years.
  • Your favorite part of working in youth soccer: It has to be those "a-ha" or light bulb moments you get from a player(s) when whatever skill or strategy you happen to be working on finally clicks for them.
  • Best moment of the past season: Hard to pick out of many, but I'd say it came during the Gem State tourney when five minutes into the game other coach said "I see your girls like to play physical like ours." Really, the dont and hadnt prior to that game. We working on being more physical prior to the tourney and as the girls promised they delivered.
  • Why you Volunteer: Aside from a selfish reason of it being so much fun for me, I'd like to think I can Still help. If not their soccer skills, I just might be able to help them with their life skills.
